The MINT Girls advertisement was the first proper client project I took on after high school in 2020. I had the chance to work with DaVinciLab, and through them with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women and the Ministry of Education.
The MINT Girls Challenge is a yearly initiative that encourages young girls to use MINT (mathematics, informatics, natural sciences and technology) in a playful, sustainable and creative way to help make the world a better place. For the campaign, I created a set of character designs for promotional use, as well as a full animated advertisement.
Since the deadline was quite tight, I brought in Angela Prager to support me with asset creation. I started the project by sketching different characters that were meant to represent girls in Austria. I used people around me as inspiration and tried to include different ethnicities, body types and ages, so the campaign could feel open and relatable to as many girls as possible.
DaVinciLab provided the script, which I then translated into a storyboard and animatic. Once the direction was approved, we created the assets in Illustrator and I animated the video using After Effects and Blender. The characters were rigged with puppet animation, and Silvana Veit did a great job as the voice actor for the final video.
This project taught me a lot very quickly. It was not only a step forward artistically, but also my first real experience with organizing a larger production, communicating with clients, coordinating another artist and bringing a full animated campaign from rough sketches to final delivery.
