Am I Real is an immersive installation exploring the liminal stages of life: the unsettling in-between moments when one chapter has ended and the next has not yet begun. The work unfolded across three rooms. Threshold used fragmented projections and haunting soundscapes, Unraveling introduced chaotic visuals and disorienting audio, and Letting Go offered a quieter, more serene space of clarity and hope.
I worked on the project as art director, concept developer, and 3D artist. My contributions included creating a projection-mapped door, which I 3D-scanned and reconstructed using RealityScan. I then built the digital environment, created the simulations, and rendered the final visuals in Karma XPU. With this project, I touched upon many aspects for the first time in Houdini like: Vellum, RBD and Kinefx.
The project was presented at Creativity Rules 2025 and challenged me to work with real-world technical constraints, giving me valuable experience in projection mapping, spatial storytelling, and installation-based workflows.
Additionally, I designed and built an audio-reactive tent for the final stage of the exhibition. The TouchDesigner visuals responded in real time to sound by Adelheid Eisl, while the sewn structure created an intimate and immersive space for visitors.
Jonas Wiederin kindly filmed the entire experience for us, and I edited the footage. Color grading will be added soon.
In addition to the wall and door projection shown earlier, I also used a floor projector, as seen here, to make the experience feel more immersive.
