This project was created in 2023 as part of a game asset course. The assignment was to choose an existing concept artwork, recreate it as a game-ready asset, texture it, and bring it into Unreal Engine 5. I chose a creature concept by Valeria Ivanova.
I sculpted the model in ZBrush, retopologized it in Maya, textured it in Substance Painter, and rendered the final asset in Unreal Engine 5. Incidentally, this was also the first time I ever used Unreal Engine. I remember being surprised by how quickly I could get to a result that looked good, especially compared to the slower rendering workflows I was used to at the time.
This project was a useful step for me because it brought together several parts of the game asset pipeline: sculpting, retopology, UVs, texturing, engine import and final presentation. It also made Unreal feel much more approachable to me and sparked my interest in real-time rendering.
