This was a short personal project I created to strengthen my Houdini skills and get back into some core FX workflows. The vase itself was inspired by different sculptural references and built procedurally in Houdini using a VDB workflow. I combined several assets from CGSpectrum and Sketchfab to create the final sculpture-like shape.
After building the object, I used the project to revisit RBD fracturing and smoke simulation. I also experimented with retiming the simulation to make the final result feel more dynamic and intentional, instead of just showing the destruction in a straightforward way.
Even though it was a smaller project, it was a useful exercise for me. It helped me become more comfortable again with procedural modeling, simulation setup and timing inside Houdini, while also letting me create something more visually dramatic.
